Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was found guilty as charged under the Article 2 of the impeachment complaint. Majority of Senators, 20-3, voted for the removal of Corona from office.

“RESPONDENT COMMITTED CULPABLE VIOLATION OF THECONSTITUTION AND/OR BETRAYED THE PUBLIC TRUST WHEN HE FAILED TO DISCLOSE TO THE PUBLIC HIS STATEMENT OF ASSETS, LIABILITIES, AND NET WORTH AS REQUIRED UNDER SEC. 17, ART. XI OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION.”

Number of Votes Needed

Sixteen (16) votes are needed to convict CJ Corona, eight (8) to acquit him.

This day,Tuesday,May 29,2012 is a historical one. Renato Corona is the first-ever Chief Justice who was impeached or removed from his office.
